If you have stories, information, or articles about anyone listed below — or someone not yet listed — please send them in. Every contribution helps us honour their memory.

Bill Cowan (Wanneroo)
To whom it may concern,

I write to you in sadness to advise on the passing of Bill on 2 April 2026 after a long battle with dementia, among other ailments. We had only just lost Maureen at the beginning of March this year so it has been quite a traumatic time for the family.
You may have been aware through the bowls fraternity that he had been in full-time care for several years before his passing.
I’m not sure if you knew him personally, but having seen your ‘In Memoriam’ section on website, I’m sure there would be many bowlers who crossed paths with him over the years, as he was heavily involved with Bowls WA and the Wanneroo Sports and Social Club for many years, with a few of those as head of the bowling section.
There is no set date for the funeral at this point, but should be able to confirm this later in the week. Will come back to you in due course on that matter.
If possible, would love to hear of any stories or humorous moments involving Bill and yourselves or any of the wider bowling community who’d like to reach out. Even just the work he did during his involvement. This would be very much appreciated, and something we could potentially look at including in the service, seeing as bowls played such a significant part in his life.
Thank you for your time and look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
Stewart Donlevy. (Bill Cowan son) Bill was a gentleman and a great sport. We enjoyed many games over the years both at Wanneroo and also with the RSL WA Bowls Section. He was a co-selector with Ian White and Rod Beazley for a number of years. He was an enthusiastic member of the RSL State Representative team and often travelled to interstate games with his wife Maureen . We shall miss them both. Echo Widermanski
Hugh Reynolds (Cockburn, Bassendean, Floreat)
I don't know much about Hugh so would love for someone to fill the gaps. I did hear he was a Premier League player for Cockburn and was also part of the Bassendean team in the 90's that got promoted to Red for the first time.

Hugh became playing coach of Floreat bowling club & when he arrived we were in 2 red Saturdays & 2 blue Thursday. He was there for 2 years before Stuart Davies took over. Hugh completely changed the club re coaching & being more professional but got all grades including our ladies together as a club. After 2 yrs our 2 red was in 1 gold & our 2 blue were in 1 blue.
Roger Barns

Hugh was an architect by trade and real gentleman by nature. Known as Sir Hugh for his habit of bestowing titles on others, he was a very good bowler and astute coach at Bassendean. He had a great sense of humour and we often joked about the "Sir Hugh Reynolds shirt collections" due to the large number of clubs he played for. RIP Hugh.
Ian Robertson

Hugh was a leading player at South Perth for 20 years in the 70s and 80s… A lovely kind, softly spoken man and great friend of my father's back in the day.
Ken Pride

Hugh first joined Cockburn in 1980 and played for the club until 1989. In that time he played in the clubs record breaking five premierships in row 1981/86, he won six in total also three mid week pennants… Sadly missed. RIP.
Steve Srhoy
Brian Clare (Manning)
A member for 44 years, Brian was well known and well loved by the members of the Manning club. Sadly passed away yesterday.

Brian was a fantastic bloke who supported myself and many other new bowlers who joined Manning over the course of 44 years, along with welcoming visitors from far and wide to the club… he was one the best ticket scrunchers at Chase the Ace on Friday nights, and he was a great supporter of the Manning Jack Attack program.

I'll always cherish my chats with Brian about everything in life, from his beloved West Perth to winning the MMBC Club Singles in 1983, and getting to play for Manning in 1 Red during the 1980s with and against some of the finest players WA has ever produced.

Farewell to a deadset champ.
— Jason Titheradge
Barry Crawford (Joondalup)
Barry Crawford
I think Brian had been fighting cancer and sadly it finally got him. Again I didn't know Brian well but know the name, anyone with more information about his achievements at the club would be greatly appreciated.

Funeral details: Simplicity Funerals Joondalup on 31st July at 10:30am and then to Joondalup Bowling Club for drinks.
Winifred Gannaway (Morley)
Very prominent member of the Morley Bowling Club especially during the Ladies bowls before amalgamation. Win was a life member for all her amazing work. Handy bowler as well as she notched up a few triples and fours championships.
Will be sorely missed. RIP Win.
Gerry McCormack (Leeming)
It is with sadness that we advise the passing of Gerry McCormack.

Gerry was with our Club for over 20 years and served on our match committee for quite a number of those years. His strength was as a coach, and he was always available to help anyone who sought his assistance. He has helped develop a number of our club players who are now part of the team that sit on top of One White.

Gerry was well liked and respected by all our members, and I would say, the wider bowling community. Our deepest sympathies go to Mary and family.
David Killisch Von Horn (Gin Gin, Wanneroo, Kalamunda, Bassendean)
David Killisch Von Horn
It's quite sad to announce the passing of Dave, a friend and someone who I have bowled with for 15 years now at his metro clubs. Dave was someone who wanted people to achieve the best out of themselves and always helped with improving deliveries, tactics and importantly for him, using the mind to better you as a person and a bowler… We have lost a good man, a good bowler and a good friend. Condolences to Brenda and all of Dave's family.

The Funeral Service was held at 131 Great Eastern Hwy, Bellevue on Wednesday 02.04.2025. After the service the family invited everyone to the Bassendean Bowling Club to share memories of David.
Ken Perks (Inglewood, Bedford, Swan, Warwick, Morley)
It is with great sadness that we wish to advise the passing of Ken Perks early Monday morning. He will always be remembered as a colourful and larger than life member of the Morley Bowling Club. Friend, bowler and coach, Ken helped a lot of us realise our dream and achieve our aspirations of playing this great game of lawn bowls. He spent time at Sporties (now Inglewood), Bedford, Swan, Warwick and Morley bowling clubs. For a few years he was the coach of the State Juniors. He will be forever remembered, rest in peace now Ken.
Budgie
Peter Wharram (Mount Lawley, Morley)
Peter Wharam passed away in hospital late last week. Had been sick for a few months and had been hospitalised. Peter was a great bloke to have around the Club. Quite often put all the mats and flags out. Spent quite a bit of time on the rollers on the grass greens. He was a great competitor and was a one club man throughout his 30 odd year bowling career. Loved his English purchased, extra wide turning Drake's Prides. RIP Peter.
Budgie
Dave Scott (Morrison Park, Derby, Bedford, Swan, Morley)
Dave started his bowling career at Morrison Park and then had a spell in the bush at Derby. He came back to Morrison Park and then moved on to Bedford, held various committee positions. He then moved to Swan where his dad had been president many years before. After Swan, he moved to Morley where he spent his remaining years as a bowler. A prolific letter writer, he spent time helping Terry Sherro with the Ossie Park website. He was also a stickler for the rules and etiquette of lawn bowls.
He will be sorely missed.

A Funeral Service was held at Silkwood Funeral Home Chapel, 110 Walter Road West, Dianella on Friday 10.01.2025.
Kevin Burke (Morley, Bedford)
Kevin began his bowling at Morley until he established himself. He then moved over to Bedford during their heyday. Played a lot of red at Bedford and was a much respected bowler. He returned to Morley later in his career and played for a few years. RIP Kevin.
Dean Calvo (Toodyay, Cunderdin, Armadale, Gosnells, South Perth)
Dean Calvo passed yesterday morning after battling illness for over 12 months. He was well travelled, his bowls journey starting at Toodyay, followed by stints at Cunderdin, Armadale, Gosnells then concluded at South Perth. Dean achieved much on the green while enjoying light-hearted banter off it. He was a respected opponent and valued teammate.
Michael Golding (Wanneroo, Warwick)
It is with sadness that I have to announce the tragic accident that resulted in the death of Mike Golding. Mike was a regular Skipper in our 1st Division Bowls at Wanneroo… A character who will be greatly missed. RIP Mike.
Michael Harper

Awful news to hear of this tragedy yesterday. I played with and against Mike, he really was a lovely guy, a competitor who wanted to get the best out of his bowls and never stopped trying to do that. He will be missed.
Paul Pantano (Mosman Park)
Mosman Park bowling club has lost one of its characters in Paul Pantano. Paul has been hiding overseas for a number of years trying to get over his 30 year association with Mossies, a laugh a minute on and off the bowling green, member of a winning state fours (1988), a short stint as President until his liver had had enough and he moved away. Passed away 14/10 in Thailand.
Guy Hagan
Ron Rushforth (Morrison Park, Bedford, Busselton)
Ron Rushforth
Ron initially played at Morrison Park before moving to Bedford where he played Premier League for a number of years and won the Club Pairs and Runner-up in the Club singles, before moving to Busselton in 2009. He played in the top side at Busselton for quite a few years and coached a few players and helped out on Committees and at events. Ron had a long battle with Alzheimer's over the past few years, but will be remembered as a fierce competitor and very handy bowler.

There was a Celebration of Life at Cambridge Bowling Club on Saturday 19th October from 4pm – 8pm.
Steven Rushforth

Sorry to hear of your Dad's passing Steve, thoughts to you and your family.
David Zampatti (Mt Lawley)
Mt Lawley stalwart David Zampatti has passed away. David was a member of the club for the last 15 yrs and served as selector, Captain and the club's unofficial scribe. A handy bowler, fantastic character with a larger than life personality. A life well lived indeed! David will be sorely missed.
Anthony Einfeld
Fred DiGiuseppe (Osborne Park, Innaloo, Scarborough)
I was quite saddened to hear of the passing of one of my old teammates at Innaloo in Freddy. A super consistent performer on the field and demanded the best from you as a teammate but such a lovely guy off it. Left Innaloo as part of the great exodus of 2005 and joined Osborne Park and played either Premier League or 1st division ever since. He will be greatly missed.
Barry McGrath (Kalamunda, Belmont)
A gregarious character, Barry McGrath had been fighting illness for a while but sadly lost his life overnight. Not a high level bowler but probably most well known to keen racing punters as the owner of one of the best horses to come out of WA, Placid Ark. He also owned and ran a variety of pubs around Metro and country WA.
Brian Osmetti (Kalgoorlie)
Anyone who played at the Kalgoorlie Golden Nugget carnival are probably aware of Brian Osmetti, president of the Kalgoorlie club who passed away a week or so ago.
Brian Kiely (North Beach, Cambridge, Sorrento)
The bowling fraternity of Perth has lost a 'gentleman', in all senses of the word, with the peaceful passing of Brian Kiely at Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital on Thursday 15th August. He was a Premiership winning bowler with the Cambridge Bowling Club and a bowler who racked up many a 1 Red and later Premier Division game with North Beach, Cambridge and Sorrento where he was currently a member. Brian was indeed a 'gentle giant' who was loved and respected by team mates and oppositions alike and will be sadly missed. RIP Big Fella.
Chris Lander
Bill Smith (Morley)
Much loved member of Morley Bowling Club, Bill Smith passed away after a short illness. Bill was respected by all and his cheeky grin and laugh warmed all. Previously at Wanneroo before coming to Morley, Bill played in our 4th, 5th and 6th divisions and as long as he was picked, didn't care what division and what position he played. RIP Bill.
Tony Adjuk (Kalamunda)
At 96 years of age Tony Adjuk lived to a ripe old age and was a much valued and loved member of the Kalamunda bowling club. Father of Geoff Adjuk who was a state member but died very young, Tony kept on representing the Kalamunda club with distinction and class, to the extent that the club recently named their A Green after him. RIP Tony.
Finn Rasmussen (Kalamunda)
Finn Rasmussen
Those that have passed through the doors at Kalamunda over the years will know Finn Rasmussen. Not a champion bowler but a champion bloke, the sort of guy every club has that will give plenty to the club and expect nothing in return. Whenever I went back to the club he would always say hello and ask about my wife, just a genuine guy who will be very much missed.
Steve Appleton (Merriwa)
A stalwart of Merriwa AFA, a life member, past President and Club Champion. Presently our Secretary, a position he has served in for a number of years. Will be sadly missed.
Harry Baraugh (Morley)
Harry was a very fiery character and took no prisoners. He was very upfront and didn't mind a bit of biffo if things got out of hand. A very passionate Leeds United and Parramatta Eels supporter. Played at Morley for around 30 years reaching Premier a few times and only gave the game away a year or so ago when his knees could take no more. RIP Harry.
Doug Arrowsmith (Hollywood/Subiaco)
Anyone that has been involved with the Internations over the years would know the name Doug Arrowsmith, who was instrumental in the founding of it and served as President for many years. Doug has sadly passed away at the age of 101. A life member of the Hollywood/Subiaco Bowling club, he was a gentle soul, a top line bowler in his day and club coach who passed on many valuable tips to upcoming bowlers. Thanks Doug for your service to the game of bowls.

George Beacroft

Few people would have known his history in the war when he was captain of a Lancaster bomber in 460 Sqn. Doug and his crew survived 35 missions. He was awarded a DFC, and later in life an OAM. He was not only a great bowler, but a very brave and competent pilot. Rest well Doug, you deserve it.
Glen Beard
Denis Eastcott (Victoria Park Carlisle)
It's with a very heavy heart that we announce the passing of Life Member Denis Eastcott. Denis was a beloved member of our club and the wider bowls community, a true gentleman of the sport. A fierce competitor on the green, a beautiful man off it.

38 years membership · 1500+ pennant games · Countless club championships and carnival wins.

Rest easy up there Den, the pleasure was all ours.
Patrick Keeffe
Neville Lewis (Morley)
The Morley Bowling Club sadly lost one of their stalwart members, Neville Lewis. Neville was an active member of the Club for over 30 years, as a player, committee person and a volunteer. He was an umpire for several years and was particularly involved in the volunteer grounds staff. Neville painted just about everything that could be painted around the grounds. He was also an enthusiastic supporter of Community Bowls. In recognition of his contribution to the Club, Neville was awarded Club Person of the Year in 2013 and was made a Life Member in 2015. He was a gentleman and a friend to all. Our thoughts are with his wife Maureen and family. RIP Neville.
Garry McCormack (Melville, Mullewa, Fremantle)
WA bowling lost one of nature's gentlemen with the recent passing of Garry McCormack, formerly of the Mullewa and Melville bowling clubs. Garry was a genuine good guy who always displayed fine sportsmanship and ability on the bowling green. An outstanding draw bowler, Garry was a Premier League lead for Melville during that club's halcyon years in the 1990s. He was a respected life member of Melville.

His wife Maria (Mosman Park) and Sean (Fremantle) are current-day respected players in our sport.
John Terrell

Funeral was held Tuesday 21st November at 2.30pm at Fremantle cemetery.
Graeme "Wings" Evans (Osborne Park, Busselton)
It seems Wings had been battling illness for a while and sadly lost the battle last week. In his day Wings was a jet, one of those guys you knew you couldn't be slightly off your game otherwise a loss was coming as he always performed consistently end after end, game after game. An absolute gentleman off the green as well. Moved to the country about 10 years ago and kept bobbing up in events and carnivals, the game has lost a true champion.
Martin Downey (Mt Lawley, Claremont, Manning)
Shocked to hear of the passing of Martin Downey as I saw him at Mt Lawley during their carnival and we had a chat. A lovely guy who was a handy bowler at many clubs including the country but always friendly and willing to say hello. Apparently battled lung disease and was awaiting a transplant when he was hospitalised and sadly did not come out. Condolences to his family especially David who was aware of his plight during the recent sides series and still performed so very well for WA. You will be missed Martin.
Colin Johnson (Wanneroo)
Colin Johnson passed away last Thursday; his son informed the Wanneroo Sports & Social Club. Colin had been unwell for a number of years. He was the coach of the juniors and up and coming bowlers for many years… His coaching would have influenced a great many playing bowls today. He was a quietly spoken man, generous, ever smiling, ever helpful and he will be greatly missed. RIP Col.

Nev Stevens: Sorry to hear of Col's passing. Yes, he was well regarded as a coach, giving up plenty of his time to help others… Sadly lacking at times these days. RIP Colin Johnson.
Wilbur Sherrington (Cambridge)
It is with great sadness that I write to inform you that Wilbur Sherrington passed away peacefully in hospital early this morning from complications arising from a chest infection. He was 85. Wilbur was a farmer from Cunderdin and has been a member of our club for many years… He played as a lead for our top side when Stuart Davies was club captain, was voted Best Player of the season a couple of times and was also a Club Man of the Year. He will be greatly missed.
Dominic Ward, President, Cambridge Bowling and Recreation Club Inc.
Vaughn Colley (Bedford)
Vale Vaughn Colley. Condolences to his family. He was a Nephew of the late great Denis Katunevich. For those who knew Vaughn he overcame some adversity to play at a high level of bowls. He usually played as a lead. He played at Bedford for around 10 years and lived a somewhat solitary life. Fond Memories. RIP.
John Carlsen
Laurie Kelly (Victoria Park Carlisle)
It is with a very heavy heart that we share the passing of Laurie Kelly. He was not only a valued member of both Carlisle Lathlain and Victoria Park Carlisle bowling clubs, he was a friend to so many. He was a fierce competitor on the greens, great story teller off them and just one of those blokes who made the club a better place. He was a modest man and would hate me saying this but the Victoria Park Carlisle Bowling Club would not be where it is without his generosity and long term business sponsorships of our major events over the years.
Patrick Keeffe
Dennis Katunavich "The Kat"
Shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of Dennis Katunarich, or "The Kat" as he was known. He was before my time and was winding down when I arrived in Perth but his records and achievements speak for themselves, arguably the greatest player WA has produced. Condolences to family and friends.
John Smith (Morley)
John Smith
It is with great sadness that the Morley Bowling Club advises of the passing of our very much loved member and friend, John Smith. John was a one-in-a-million guy. Always there in the background quietly doing things without being asked. John never said a bad word about anything or anybody. A true gentleman. He always acknowledged his opposition's good bowls and played a damn mean game himself.
RIP mate. Budgie
Juris Lorencs (Yokine, Sorrento)
Juris Lorencs
Well known from Yokine but finishing at Yokine it was sad to hear of the passing of Juris, a lovely guy and a handy bowler. Thoughts go out to his family at this time. Funeral was held at 607 Wanneroo Road Wanneroo on Thursday 1.6.2023, with the wake at Yokine at 12pm.
Steve Black (Bassendean)
Steve Black
It is with great sadness that the Bassendean Bowling Club announces the passing of Steve Black on Friday, 28th April 2023. Steve was a tireless worker for the club, club president for many years and life member. He led the club through a long period of achievement and success and was devoted to the Bassendean Bowling Club. Loyal, loud and full of life.

Steve was highly respected by the WA bowls community. Steve is survived by daughter Mel, grand-daughter Kaylee and sister Julie. RIP Blacky. "Words Fail Us"

The funeral was held at Bassendean Bowling Club on Wednesday 24th May 2023. Anyone attending was asked to wear something blue in acknowledgement of the great work done by Beyond Blue.
Noel Staude "Staudey" (Victoria Park Carlisle)
The Victoria Park Carlisle Bowling Club is very saddened to share the passing of Noel Staude. "Staudey" as he was affectionately known was a larger than life character and simply put, just the type of person you love to have at your club. A fierce competitor on the green, an absolute gentleman off it.

Graham Archell: May the sun warm you on the 16 second green Noel, may the company be as courteous, as good humoured & as gentlemanly as you, may the beer be cold & your days as enjoyable as your company always was to those fortunate to have known you. I will miss you mate.

Funeral was at St Joachim's Church, Shepperton Road, Victoria Park on Friday 10th February at 1pm, followed by a gathering at the Victoria Park Carlisle Bowling Club.
Tony Srhoy (Spearwood, Cockburn)
Tony Srhoy
Cockburn lawn bowls family is saddened with the passing of Tony Srhoy, brother of Steve and Jack (deceased). Tony was a foundation member of Cockburn Bowling Club formed in 1964, and served on the committee for several years.

State titles: 1974 State Triples, 1977 State Triples (with brothers Steve and Jack — an achievement never replicated by one family), 1978 State Pairs (with Steve), 1978 & 1979 State Fours. State Representative 1979, Australian Fours Championship 1979. Master Pairs Doubleview 1991.

Tony was the inaugural Spearwood Bowls President and was awarded Life Membership; a green is named in his honour.
Brian Blagaich
Boris Yakas (Spearwood, Kardinya, Cockburn)
Boris Yakas
We are saddened to notify the Lawn Bowls fraternity of the passing of Boris Yakas last week. Boris was a very popular person and always there to have a chat and a laugh. He was fiercely competitive and enjoyed his bowls for over 4 decades.

Spearwood Club titles – Pairs: 2002, 2009; Triples: 1999, 2002, 2004, 2005; Fours: 1999, 2000, 2004; Bowler of the year: 2009

A special farewell from his last season's rink of Bob Bavcevich, Nik Silich and Ivan Unkovich.
Elizabeth (Liz) Brooke (North Beach)
Liz Brooke
Liz Brooke sadly lost her battle with cancer, it was a battle she had fought and won before but this time it was a battle she did not win. Liz played 18 games for the state and was well known as a competitive hard to topple bowler getting deep in many tournaments without taking any major state titles. She will be missed by family and friends and the wider bowling community.
Bernie Hett (Police, Kalamunda, Halls Head)
Bernie Hett
Bernie had been battling cancer for seemingly ages and kept seeming to beat it, but sadly lost the battle recently. I bowled with Bernie at Kalamunda and for the past 10 years have considered him a good friend. We bowled together in many carnivals, pennants and club events… one thing you can say about his bowls was he was always into the head, always niggling, ever confident in his ability and always fought games to the end, much like the fight he had with his health. On a personal level he was a great guy, very generous to friends and family with his time and finances. It was a pleasure knowing him for as long as I did and he will be sorely missed.
John Hulbert (Morley, Wanneroo)
John Hulbert
Former Morley and Wanneroo bowler John Hulbert passed away peacefully on 23rd May 2022 aged 90 at Kalamunda hospital. His bowling achievements include winning the Morley Novice Singles. One of his victories in this tournament was against his son Murray. He also won a Club Fours at Wanneroo with his son Murray being a member of the team. His last competitive game of bowls was for his retirement village against another retirement village. RIP Dad in Heaven.
Murray Hulbert

Had the pleasure of playing with John and Murray in the club fours at Wanneroo, unfortunately we fell at the last hurdle. A true gentleman RIP John.
Ted Alden
Harold Christenson (Cambridge)
Harold Christenson
Harold played 240 games of Premier League for Cambridge Bowling Club. Harold was an outstanding sportsman having played A grade cricket and was an outstanding fast bowler for many years. He also played A Grade hockey for many years as a Goal Keeper. He was also very good at snooker playing at Club level. Harold will be sadly missed by those that knew him and we will miss him very much at Cambridge.
Reg Humphryson (Wanneroo)
Reg sadly has lost his long battle against cancer. An absolute legend who gave back to bowls as much as he took from it. Even in his 80's and sick he was still playing in the top side at Wanneroo and bowling consistently and competitively. A true swingman, he could play in any position… He spent many years coaching, especially the ladies, and you can see his brand with swing of the arm. A real legend of bowls.

State Pairs: 1999, 2004 · National Pairs: 1999 (with Clive Adams)

Clive Adams: In 1999 Reg and I combined to win the WA State Pairs… We headed to South Australia for the National Champ of Champs, and somehow came away with the gold. We won by one shot and that win was the catalyst for my first foray into State bowls. It was a remarkable week and one that I will cherish forever. You were a great friend Reg. RIP.
John Cottier Snr (Mt Lawley)
John Cottier Snr
John Cottier SNR joined the Mount Lawley Bowling Club in 1997 and made a very significant contribution to our Club. Cottier played 805 pennant games for Mt Lawley. He was President of the club from 2001–2004, awarded life membership in 2012. He won the Alan Evans (best player) medal in 2011; Club Championships wins were once in the pairs, twice in the Triples, Twice in the Fours and the Bev Sanders in 2018. He played an integral part in the implementation of the 'A' green carpet some 12 years ago.

Merv Shehan (Melville, Mandurah)
Merv Shehan
Melville Bowling Club has lost another of its champions of yesteryear. Mervyn Shehan passed away at his home in Mandurah aged 86. He established himself as one of the State's leading bowlers after moving to Perth around 1980, winning the club singles title at Melville in 1981 and the prestigious WA Champion of Champions title the same year. He also won a State Fours title in 1987/88. At Melville, Shehan won club singles titles in 1980 and 1994, the pairs (1990), triples (1984 and 1989) and fours in 1984.

Daniel Patterson "Danno / Puppy" (Bassendean, Victoria Park, Cambridge)
Daniel Patterson
Just shocking news to hear of the tragic accident to Daniel which unfortunately cost him his life. Only 28 years of age with the whole world at his feet. On the green he was a fierce competitor and wanted to beat everyone he played, but always chatted and laughed off the green. Our heart goes out to Lauren and their newly born son Cooper, parents Brad and Jen, brother Steve and Uncle Ray.

State: Junior State Fours & Triples 2006–07 · State Triples 2009–10, 2016–17 · State Singles r-up 2016 · Champion of Champion Singles 2012–13 · State Caps: 66

Funeral was at Norfolk Chapel, Karrakatta Cemetery on Wednesday 29th August at 10:30am.
Alan Evans (Mt Lawley)
Alan Evans
I was saddened to hear of the passing of Alan Evans. He was a member of the club for 55 years, played mid week and Saturdays and conservatively played about 1800 games for the club. He joined the club in 1963 and stayed there ever since. He held countless positions on the committee, is a life member, a club champion, multiple club event winner, past president. The ultimate honour is to have a club medal named after you which he had at this club. He will be missed by all club members.
Russell Woolf (Mt Lawley)
Russell Woolf
Wow what shocking news to wake up to today, much loved ABC news presenter and former weather man and member of Mt Lawley Bowling Club passing away suddenly today. If you've ever been to attend Mt Lawley carnivals and had the pleasure of listening to Russell speak during the presentations it was quite something else. I never saw him without a smile on his face. The bowls world is now poorer. Thoughts to the club and to Russell's family.

Martin Swift: I played a few games against him and found him to be a good bloke. Always friendly and ready for a chat. He will be missed by many.
Pat Caffell (Osborne Park)
Pat Caffell
Anyone in bowls would have known Pat, he was a true gentleman in bowls, always enquiring about your health and your family, a very generous man who gave so much back to bowls. He had been battling illness for a while but fought it out right to the end. We will all miss you Pat. Our thoughts with Joyce and Gary and all of the Caffell clan.

Joyce Caffell: It is with a very heavy heart that I announce that my wonderful darling, Pat, has left me in the early hours of this morning. He was a great brother to Gary & family, a wonderful dad to Denis (deceased), Sean & Clinton & their families. But to me he was my whole world and I am completely devastated and broken. You are now free from pain my darling. I love you to the moon and back.
Luke Richardson (Cockburn, Dalkeith-Nedlands, Cambridge)
Luke Richardson
Awful news as we heard that Luke Richardson had passed away suddenly on the weekend. Luke spent some time here in Perth, starting at Cockburn before moving to Dalkeith Nedlands where he won the club singles in 2010/11 and the Pairs in 2009/10 and 2012/13. He then moved to Cambridge winning the State Singles in 2013, followed by club Pairs, Triples and Fours in 2014 and being selected for the State side (cap 170, 25 games). As a skipper here in the Premier League he had a 22 win from 44 games record over 5 seasons. He moved back to Tasmania about 3 years ago.
He was a friendly guy, always happy to say hello to his fellow bowler and a real competitor, especially in singles where he was tough to beat. RIP Luke.
Harry Clifford (Kalamunda)
Harry Clifford
I was very saddened to hear of the passing of Harry Clifford suddenly on Monday. He was full of life up to the end, celebrating his 89th birthday the Friday prior. He was a member of Kalamunda for at least 27 years and probably longer; he won the club pairs in 1994 and at the ripe old age of 86 took out the club singles in 2018, surely one of the oldest club singles winners ever. He was still bowling well, had been playing in the top side all season. If you knew Harry you could not say a bad word about him, he was kind, funny, always said hello and very generous with his time and good words. You will be missed greatly Harry, rest in peace.
Greg Kane (Cambridge)
Greg Kane
The bowls world has lost a larger than life figure when Greg Kane passed away overnight. His personality and competitive spirit has touched many throughout our small bowls community. I always enjoyed playing against him because you always knew you were up for a good game, and when you bowled well he always acknowledged it. Not only competitive but also played in great humour, which is really how bowls should be played — spirited and competitive but fun and enjoyable. RIP Greg, you will be greatly missed.

Greg has been the heart and soul of the Cambridge Bowling Club over many years and is a Life Member of the Club. And, yes, you guessed it — Greg's last bet was a winner!!

Haydn Smith (York)
Haydn Smith
Word came filtering through yesterday and confirmed last night of the sudden and tragic passing of Haydn Smith. You couldn't meet a more genial guy than Haydn, always smiling, would always say hello and enquire about your health but always a fierce competitor on the green with a will and desire to win, culminating in the state pairs win of 2018/19. Part of the famous Smith bowling family from York, our thoughts go out to wife Sian, sons Justin, Nathan and Aaron and daughter Emma.

Funeral was held on Wednesday 6th October at 10.30am at Forest Oval, followed by burial at York Cemetery.
Neville Faulkner (Manning, Victoria Park & others)
Neville Faulkner, the Bowls columnist for the Sunday Times for 20+ years, played 1 Red pennant for Manning and Vic Park for the better part of 20 years as well as stints at City Beach, Gosnells and most recently Halls Head. As a player he won numerous club events including multiple club singles, won Royal Park Masters Singles, Doubleview Masters Pairs, semi finalist in state singles twice, runner up state fours amongst other achievements. His life was celebrated at Halls Head Bowling Club on 20th November.
Bob Williams (Mosman Park, Rossmoyne)
90 year old Bob Williams passed away peacefully recently. A WA State Representative, Williams was twice crowned as the Men's Outstanding Bowler of the Year winning the Rosenthal Medal in 1965 and 1976. Nationally he finished third in the Australian Pairs in 1972. Within WA he won the coveted State Singles in 1965 and the Champion of Club Champion Singles in 1976 and 1977. For his achievements Bob Williams was inducted into the Bowls WA Hall of Fame in 2010.
Cliff Graybrook (Bedford)
To say Cliff was a club legend doesn't do him justice. Cliff remained a dominant bowling force through his entire career, amassing club titles at will in all forms of the game and was the most feared of skippers to his Pennants opponents. Cliff's massive contribution continued off the green, where he held a number of club positions over multiple decades and was a perennial fixture volunteering at the club. He lived, ate and breathed the Bedford Bowling Club. Our sincere condolences go out to Cliff's family and multitude of friends throughout the bowling community. We were honoured to have Cliff as a Life Member, and we will never forget. RIP Cliffy.
